India look to win big against depleted Bangladesh
With their campaign back on track after a commanding victory over their arch-rivals, India will look to not only win but win big in order to boost their net run rate when they take on the qualifier team from their group – Bangladesh- at Bengaluru on 23rd of March. In the recently concluded Asia cup, India defeated Bangladesh without much fuss not once but twice. India are 4-0 up in T20s in head-to-head encounters.
With the likes of Taskin and Sunny suspended by the ICC for illegal actions, it is going to be a very uphill task for Bangladesh to defeat the hosts. The suspensions of these players leaves Bangladesh with very few of the frontline bowlers to play with.
Moreover they would be pretty low on confidence after back-to-back defeats at the hands of Pakistan and Australia. These defeats leave them with just a statistical chance to qualify for the semi-finals with their progression depending on not only them winning their rest of the matches but also on the results of all the other matches of the groups.
On the contrary, India have everything to play with as they are still in contention for a semi-final spot. With New Zealand already almost there, it is going to be a three-way race between India, Pakistan and Australia to secure the other semi-final spot from this very group.
India Overwhelming Favourites
Now coming to the match, India go into this match as hot favourites. It would need a sort of miracle for the Bangla tigers to defeat the Indian team.
With Kohli, Yuvraj and Dhoni looking in good form, India’s middle order seems a well settled one. But the problems are arising at the top of the order with Dhawan not striking form and Raina too looking out of sorts. Rohit has also not contributed much in the first two matches for India and going by his failure rate in the limited overs format, he is due for a big one.
The bowling seems to be in pretty safe hands with Nehra, Bumrah, Ashwin and Jadeja all contributing to the team. Hardik Pandya didn’t have much role to play in the first two matches but we all know what he is capable of.
Bangladesh have many problems to address with only Tamim, Shakib and Mahmudullah seeming to be in some sort of form. Out of these three, Tamim didn’t play in the last match against the Kangaroos as he was unfit. It still remains to be seen whether he would be available for selection for the next match.
